So for Christmas I got a pair of Sony MDR-V700 and MDR-V600 from two
different family members after they heard that I was on the lookout for a good pair of studio headphones. I'm looking for something to reference my monitors against, something with, among other things, a nice flat frequency response. But I think the only good use for these is with my iPod. I didn't mean to plug that as a gift idea; I made sure to pretext everyone that this kind of equipment is very specialized and couldn't be bought at Best Buy (or even GC for that matter). Anyway, now I have these two headphones and I'm wondering what the general group opinion is: I see that the V700 is marketed as the 'professional DJ headphone,' so I'm assuming the bass hype is out of this world. What about the 600's? Is there any hope? |

I can't speak for the 600's, but the 700 is really not terribly bass hyped, relatively speaking. The midrange on it is much more present, and the bass is much less hyped than, say, the Sony 7506 which everybody knows and loves. Or maybe I should say that the 7506 is much more scooped in the middle than the 700. Anyway, I go back and forth between my 700's and my 7506's when I need to listen in cans, depending on what I'm listening for. Don't throw them away - they're quite useful. -- Eric Frampton, keyboards Atlanta, Georgia, USA http://www.ericframpton.com (remove the year from the email address above to get my real address) |

stick with the 600's, they are great....similar to 7506's with less clarity
and quality of build IMHO.....the 700's are very similar but yes, they are more oriented for DJ's, and they're annoying as hell when you're trying to use them and the cans are spinning and flopping around. Bass might be slightly better but overall I think the 600 is a better pair of cans. -- Jonny Durango "Patrick was a saint. I ain't." http://www.jdurango.com wrote in message oups.com... What about the 600's? Is there any hope? Obviously, from what you've read... you could return them both, pick up a set of 7506s and have some spending money left over. For those who think the bass sounds hyped on their mixes, there's probably really to much much low end trash in there... and you can *hear* it. For those who think they're hyped on the high end, again there's either too many highs in the source or they're being operated at too high of a volume level. At modest listening levels, the 7506 is one of the smoothest representations in cans of what's in my mains, that I've ever had the pleasure to compare.. given the price category. -- David Morgan (MAMS) http://www.m-a-m-s DOT com Morgan Audio Media Service Dallas, Texas (214) 662-9901 _______________________________________ http://www.artisan-recordingstudio.com |
