View Full Version : New Car Alarm without the goofy 6 tone siren

I'm selling my car that has my beloved Alpine car alarm (SEC 8028). The
only problem I'm having with it is the 10 year old remote case is wearing
thin and I lost the box that had the installation manual and the spare. :(
I can get a remote off ebay but without I'm thinking its not worth the
trouble to rip that one out of the old car and figure out the wiring again.
Instead I'm going to get a new alarm system for the new car.
I looked on Ebay and didn't see any SEC 8028s for sale.
The popular choice is the Viper/Directed units at BB and CC that have that
dinky 6 tone siren. I had an Exaliber LOONG ago and everyone had the same
siren so I never knew if it was my car or another one going off.
I'd like a no bullsh*t single tone siren preferably with muted churp. All
it has to do is work the door locks and flash the lights.
any recommendations
Its going on a 2007 Tacoma.

I have had several of the DEI alarms (Viper and Python), and even though
they had the goofy 6 tone siren, I always had them program the tone that
I wanted to use. Another friend of mine swears by Clifford car alarms,
and that is all he ever had installed on any of his vehicles.
Regardless, I recommend that you ask the installer if a single tone is
programmable out of any of the new alarms on the market because I am
afraid that a basic alarm in this society of choice is going to be hard
to find.
I hope you find what you are looking for!

I would goto your local shop that does those types of installations and see
how much if would cost for them to swap out your alarm 'siren' ONLY for a
new one. Sirens for the most part are universal and you should be able to
use your Alpine horn on any system.

I was just thinking that.
I'll have to check if I can use the siren from the Alpine on the DEI alarms.

I was about to suggest the same thing. No reason it shouldn't work, 99%
of sirens used in these systems are pretty simple devices: ground the
black wire, apply power to the other, and it makes noise.

I know for a fact that you can. I had that setup on my old car. The Siren is
usually just 2 wires +/-, they might just have to slightly modify the
connector to the alarm, which can be done in seconds if they aren't lazy.
