Can you even buy a 5.1 receiver these days? I thought they were all 6.1 or
7.1 or who knows what else is the latest.

It may not be worth it, but it's not much more expensive to make or
purchase. The old DVD's are forward compatible with 6.1 or 7.1 receivers.

If you find a 5.1 receiver for sale, it must be new old-stock or used.

What brand and model of 5.1 have you found for sale?

I stand corrected. The Yamaha website shows a 5.1 Receiver that is
available:

I didn't see any 5.1's on the Sony website. You can check the other brands.

surround sound room with tower speakers as I listen to music more thatn
watching movies.

I am not overly impressed....anyways, I dont want top end stuff like
panasonic(joke).....just middle of the road.
BTW,
The speakers are PSB 5T and PSB 9c...capable of max 175watts.
Thanks in advance

In Toronto, you can buy 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 and 5.1 without DTS funny enough.
Many think 6.1 is not worth it because how many DVDs or CDs use the
technology?
