Given that tubes are oh-so-60s, and this is the 21st century, why
should anybody care about tubed relics like the Cayin, or slavish
Accuphase clones like the Jungson?

Arny obviously hasn't listened to many tube amps lately or he would be
changing his tune (major pun intented).
sorry tracer, i haven't heard of those either, but i would stick to the
beaten path of products like ASL, Jolida, etc that are built there but
are either US based or have US distribution. I have both ASL and Jolida
and couldn't be happier.

Another helpful resonse from Arny the Great to an unsuspecting newbie.
Well done!
BTW Tracer, I haven't heard any of the amps you mention, so I don't
have any meaningful information about them.
In stark contrast to a certain well-known preference basher, I tend to
keep my mouth shut when I don't have an answer to a question.

Thanks Sander for confusing salient questions about amps for which no
preference had been stated, with preference bashing.
Hyper-sensitive, much?

Delusions of omniscience noted. In fact I've heard a tube amp lately,
and it didn't sound any better than it did in the days of.
I'd be more happy if the Chinese stuck to supplying tubes (although of
better quality...) and transformers instead of the whole amp. Of course
if they come down to Wal-mart price, we can always part them out new in
the box...
Of the distributors of these things my inquiries as to availability of
transformers has usually been ignored.
Actually '30's/'40's/'50's...but who cares, they still sound better.

Tubes *can* be good. Chinese made stuff, though, is
highly suspect. The one I recommend is Jolida - it's
actually a decent if older design, and the tubes aren't
half bad.

Why aren't you so derisive when Middius express the "overwhelming

wine that he has never tested ?

Because some people actually use them in their systems to listen to music. You
might give it a try some time. You might just understand why some people like
tubes. Wait, you understand? Never mind.

Obviously, someone has confused listening to tube amp audible artifacts
with actual music.

Messers. Midius and Wheelers Of course I understand. I was listening to
tube amps when your potential older brothers were just your father's

Pretty wierd, I'd say. Given all of the well-known problems of tubes,
these people must be deep into self-abuse.

Been there, done that. I dumped my last tubed amp in or around 1966.

Having suffered with the well-known and obvious failings of tubes for

Not exactly, but nice try anyway. You're right about one thing - I
don't have a wife. I hope that this choice isn't objectionable to you.
And frankly, my libido still has plenty of life in it, unlike some of

I guess I should have said you should give quality tube gear a try some time in
a quality high end system. I know there was plenty of cheap garbage back when
tube gear was mostly used.

Contrary to popular belief among delusional audiophiles, good sound
doesn't have to be grotesquely inconvenient or hyper-expensive.

Just because its outdated technology doesn't mean it has to sound good.

Been there, done that. Spending more money on outdated technology can't
overcome its inherent weaknesses.

True, there is a lot of stuff that tubies still brag about, that is
junk now and was junk then. However, the best tubed equipment can
barely compete with the barely-not-junk class of modern SS electronics.

The mystery is your behavior, Scott. Why do you want audio to be more
difficult than it needs to be?

Thanks Scott for admitting that you think that audio has to involve
pain.

Where did I say that? I didn't! Obviously the unecessary frustrations
and burdens of tubed audio equipment has unhinged you, Scott.

DAMN! What knowledge, what INSIGHT!! The man is able to perform a

with a mere flick of a finger! This ****borg has statues erected to his

I'm just fascinated by your overall stupidity, Dave.

Just trying to get you to elaborate on your cryptic comments, Dormer.
I guess you don't know what you are talking about, again.

Not physically, no.
Let's ( " ;-)" ) just say you once, in the not too distant past, made
a very big mistake by answering a certain call yourself.
When your caller ID starts with +44, just run, don't walk!

No. We mean the tape that DOES exist and has been passed around to half of the
people here. In addition, I have verified that the voice on the tape is indeed
YOUR voice, ****head.

I hope you and Sander resolve your differences. He says it doesn't
physically exist. I suspect he's telling the truth.
I find it hard to believe that you guys wasted the time and money to send
this tape around amongst yourselves. Gosh, I must be special to have such
devoted fans as you!

Special like the guys in "Shut Up Little Man" or "The Red Tape." They
were the subjects of far more popular tapes that guys like these passed
around. It's one of those guilty pleasures some people indulge in.
Those particular "special" people have a lot of devoted fans. It's a
kind of "special" that should not bring a sense of pride though. It's a
kind of fandom I think one should not desire. Don't worry. I doubt you
will ever reach such cult status. You're funny but not funny enough.
