View Full Version : A-10's buzz my house constantly

I find it impossible to do anything involving a microphone because
there is constant noise from aircraft. Is there anything I can do
that won't cost a fortune?

Now you know why the house was so cheap! :-)

You live near Willow Grove?

You're lucky... A-10s are relatively quiet as far as fighters go so
sound proofing won't have to be as hard for them as if it were some
other plane. And their sound is more of a high pitched turbine whine
then the low rumble of other planes. So standard sound proofing (double
walls and windows, absorbant panels, etc.) should work. What's a
fortune?

I would just move to a better location.

I recorded two A-10's doing some fly-by's at an air show last year. They where
quiet compared to the old piston powered war bird's that pegged my meter's just
taxing to the tarmac.

Swat em with a Stinger Missile that'll teach those pesky mosquitos.

You could get some of those Stinger missiles, but you might make someone
angry doing that. For vocals, it's possible to use the Coles lip mike,
though. Good clean vocals without leakage even out on the flight line.
They aren't that cheap, but they are worth every penny.

Move to West Virginia. Houses don't cost a fortune there, and if you
pick the right place, you won't find too many airplanes.

Thanks to all who responded, even to the sarcastic *******s :-)

It's quiet today. Maybe they're all in the classroom instead of in the air...

I'll take this opportunity to record my flute.

Move. A friend of mine grew up in the midwest. His house was
about
500 feet away from one of the low level training routes for the B-52s.
Imagine if you will, eight jet engines going balls to the wall passing
over
your house at less than a hundred feet at all hours of the day and
night.
At least once a week, sometimes several times a week. One of his
hobbies a a kid was to launch tennis balls up into the flight path with
a small carbide cannon. As far as he knows, he never hit one.

Shoulder-fired rockets! Easily available cheap from former Soviet union.
:-)

Heh. Well THAT wasn't too bright. Dig this senario. Kid in yard
launches tennis ball into flight path. Jet engine sucks it in
and gets out of balance and explodes! Jet crashes into kid's house
smashing it flat...and that's just if the bomb load DOESN'T go off!

Naw, the airplane would be going too fast to crash into the kid's
house. It would overshoot the house and crash into the kid's school.

Actually, these days most jet engines eat tennis balls for breakfast.

And are tested by shooting (thawed) chickens into them when at full power.
Always liked the high speed video images of that :-)

I heard the US is dropping behind. But are its aircraft THAT slow?
