I find it impossible to do anything involving a microphone because

You're lucky... A-10s are relatively quiet as far as fighters go so
sound proofing won't have to be as hard for them as if it were some
other plane. And their sound is more of a high pitched turbine whine
then the low rumble of other planes. So standard sound proofing (double
walls and windows, absorbant panels, etc.) should work. What's a
fortune?

I would just move to a better location.

I recorded two A-10's doing some fly-by's at an air show last year. They where
quiet compared to the old piston powered war bird's that pegged my meter's just
taxing to the tarmac.

You could get some of those Stinger missiles, but you might make someone
angry doing that. For vocals, it's possible to use the Coles lip mike,
though. Good clean vocals without leakage even out on the flight line.
They aren't that cheap, but they are worth every penny.

500 feet away from one of the low level training routes for the B-52s.
