Default really nice preamp

Hi is RNP *still* recommended as one that can compare with the majors? i.e.
how would it compare to focusrite twintrakpro?
Also I would like to record my band live for review and maybe a few cds to
sell would this be a good hardware?
http://www.swee****er.com/store/clos...nTrakPro--Main
I'm trying to lug as less as possible to the gig.

Should be just fine, if not overkill. Depends on the nature your band how
much effort to put into recording gear.

It doesn't have to compare with anything. It is one of the "majors".

i.e. how would it compare to focusrite twintrakpro?

Eats it for lunch. If you want to compare the FMR stuff to Focusrite,
it's really a lot closer to (some say better than) the ISA and Red
models.

Also I would like to record my band live for review and maybe a few

Yes.

I'm not personally a fan of Swee****er, but whatever floats yer boat.

I'm trying to lug as less as possible to the gig.

RNP is two top shelf preamps in 1/3 rack space. TTP is two spaces.
Unless you REALLY (I mean REALLY) know what your doing, EQ &
compression in your stated application will do more harm than good.
Besides, you won't get two channels of even marginally decent EQ or
compression at that price. (Well, you can get two channels of really
nice compression from FMR, but preamps are not included, and the two
channels are not un-linkable.)

Sorry I may have confused the issue..it was two separate questions: 1)
about RNP for my studio work. And 2) using twintrakpro to record live.
I'm also looking at Zoom HD16CD, any opinions on this? I don't know what
your reference to swee****er has to do with the question; but they are
the only ones I can get to ship to my country..so they get the job done
for me..I'd work with samash or gc whoever in south florida as they are
closer to my country but they won't deal..so...

Yes, unless you have very quiet sources and/or very insensitive ribbon
mics placed at a distance from the source.

Well, you have another option in that if you know someone in the US,
send them the money and THEY could buy the equipment you really should
be purchasing and then ship it to you. There would be import fees and
such, I'm sure. But at least you'd get the quality gear you really
need and want instead of the bogus crap you would have to settle for
if buying direct from the "stores" you currently have to deal with.

Thanks Fletch but it doesn't quite go like that..I have to: have a
friend who's not busy, then get central bank approval for money exchange
(a long ride downtown in traffic and then a possible long line) Then go
to western union (another long line) to send money..wait for the person
to go and get it..wait for them to have time to get the part and then
ship it...and all this time I could be home bull****ting not making
music. No thanks bud.
Why do you consider stuff that one researches and buys bogus crap just
because it comes from certain stores?

I think you misunderstood the intent of the comment, to infer that you
could obtain better gear through mutual co operation with someone
stateside versus having to be limited by the choices you have through
the few dealers who will actually do business with you in your
country, who may not have a good selection to choose from, the only
reason for the 'bogus crap' comment -- not that budget gear is
necessarily bad, it just doesn't satisfy.

That said, we all have budgets, and I am no less guilty of buying
stuff that was less than satisfying when I finally got and began using
it.

It is good you are researching your options. It's sad that nobody
really wants to deal with you because you're in another country.

Good luck.

What country are you in?
Personally I buy mid priced things from the states 'cause the exchange
rate makes them cheaper, even then the duty and transport is included.
More expensive or important things I'd rather buy closer to home, so I
can go around the shop and hit the guy with the item if it breaks
down!!!

Dave,

get me another local crew guy, this ones broken!!

You're in luck! The RNP is just fine for live recording.

AND FMR sells direct to non-US customers.
