I would bet real money that in "five or six thousand" cats that you
killed, Bret Ludwig, at least a few hundred were someone's treasured
pets. We have only your word that these cats you killed were "feral",

pellet guns: if I can't shoot a .223 or a 7.62x39 I simply don't.

That said, I've probably sent five or six thousand to Kitty Valhalla.
Less then a half dozen did not die instantly and without suffering. In
each case I carefully studied the problem to prevent future suffering.
My conclusions: go for a head shot, get in range, and use enough gun.
The 7.62x39 is more than enough but the cartridges are cheap, albeit
Berdan primed. 7.62x54R is also cheap sometimes but the recoil is too
much to enjoy a good slay.
