Default mp3 editor

does anyone know of a free program for editing mp3 files, nothing
fancy, i just want the ability to cut portions out of a song.

Audacity is free, and will do that.

Audacity is free, and will do that.



It is likely that Audacity simply imports the mp3 into straight
floating point, and then re-encodes the sound on the way out.
This may be the only way to edit an mp3, but there will be
(possibly) audible degradation in the sound.

It is possible to cut and rejoin MP3s without decoding them. There are a
number of editors that do this.

You can edit them with dd if all else fails, as they have no main header.
