Default Help! Focusrite ISA220 Problem

Got a new issue with the compressor.

I was playing my bass through the DI input on the front with the
"Bypass" switch engaged (which bypasses everything but the pre and the
master output). I wanted to compress it so I disengaged "Bypass" and
pressed "Comp In". Immediately I lost my tone under about 150Hz and
above about 4k. There was also about a 15db drop in the output (the
input to the pre was still reading a strong level), as well as some
hiss. I zeroed the Comp section trying to figure out the loss in level
so I set Radio to 1.5, Thresh to +12, Attack to S, release to 0.1, and
Makeup to 0. I was still experiencing the above symptoms.

I also noticed that as the Compressor is engaged and I turn on the
"Comp Pre EQ" option that I lose even more again. About 40db loss.

I methodically checked each section of the channel seperately and in
combination with one another, as well as trying a microphone in the
mic input and a signal into the line. It appears to be the Comp
section ONLY.

I powered it off and powered it back on but still have the problem.

I recall that a few weeks ago I was using it on vocals and the tone
seemed to shift... It lost it's clarity and became nasal. So i turned
it off and turned it back on and it seemed to be ok.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm Toronto, ON and
desperately need it fixed. I've had horrible experiences with
Long&McQuade repairs, and another trusted tech seemed to think it's a
proprietary part that needs fixing (i.e. going to be difficult to
identify and replace the part).

Thanks!

Mike

As a last resort before sending it to be fixed, try plugging and removing
a jack plug a few times into the compression key input and dynamic link
plugs on the back of it.

I have absolutely no evidence of this, but it's possible dirty normally
closed contacts on those sockets could affect the sound.
It's the kind of thing I do in my ignorance of electronics. If it's a
really difficult problem, I give the device a slap.

Thanks!

Mike
