I'm trying to understand my options for using a set of Logitech 5.1
THX multimedia speakers with my poor-mans home theater system. I
really enjoy these speakers on my computer (they use 3 analog mini
plug connectors to hook into my computer's 5.1 sound card) but want to
connect them to my tv - especially for dvd movie watching. In case
you don't know, these are powered 280 watt speakers with wonderful
bass and sound great.

One option I'm thinking is to connect them directly to one of the few
dvd players with 5.1 analog outputs like the Oppo DV-970HD (cost
around $150). I would use RCA to mini plug adapters for this. This
works for watching dvd's but I guess does nothing for me if watching
regular tv.

Another option, I think, is to connect any old dvd player to an a/v
reciever and then connect the speakers to the reciever - however, I
don't have an a/v reciever so I'd have to buy one - plus the ones I
looked at all seem to have powered speaker outputs and not 5.1 analog
line level outputs (the Logitechs are, of course, self-powered). I'm
wondering if a/v recievers normally provide such outputs that I could
use. I looked at the Onkyo 5.1 reciever but it seems to just accept
5.1 analog inputs - not outputs ??

Maybe there are better ways of doing this but I'm not really an expert
in this area so I'm looking for ideas. I'm hoping this is a fairly
easy question for someone who understands all this stuff.

The main constraint is to make use of my existing Logitech's and keep
to a reasonable budget. I didn't mention which tv I'm using (I plan on
buying a new one) so assume it's a basic sub-$1,000 37" LCD model by
Samsung, LG or Toshiba. Thanks!
