Default Playing acetates on a laser turntable?

My question is, would the ELP be of any use when it comes to getting
a decent (or at least better) sounding transfer of my old wreck of an
acetate?

The ELP will probably give a worse transfer, as the laser reading is
more-susceptible to surface defects. The ELP has some sort of transient
noise suppressor, but I don't know how effective it is.
