Default Coaxial digital I/O to Daw

I noticed that the HD-P2 has digital I/O that looks like
RCA connectors. If I got a digital I/O card for my computer,
would I then be able to use the HD-P2 as a preamp-A/D
converter? Would it be set up so that the digital output
always reflects what is coming in from the mics, and the
Line output reflect what was coming in from the digital input?

If this is possible, what is the name of that digital
protocol, so that I can look for a PCI card to try this
out?

Thanks,

Toby

If your I/O card had an S/PDIF digital input, you probably could.
You'd proably have to put it in Record/Pause mode in order to get
output to the card.

That's a strange way of looking at it. The Line Output and Digital
Output should always have the same thing - the input source when
you're recording and the playback when playing back.

If this is possible, what is the name of that digital
protocol, so that I can look for a PCI card to try this
out?

S/PDIF

I think it would be an upgrade over my present path which is
throught VLZPro preamps and a Delta44 which does A/D in the
computer.

I'm not sure. VLZ preamps are pretty good. I doubt that the ones in
the HD-P2 are better. And I think the A/D converters are in the same
ballpark. Why not try it and report back to us? Or instead of futzing
with digital interfacing (which can be a headache), just spend your
money on a better preamp.
