" "It is an insult to all those record stores who have supported Prince throughout his career" they are lying, Why does everybody in the newsgroups always accuse someone of lying? their business model is failing. No two ways about it: The "record industry" as we know it is slowly losing its hold on the market. He fought with the record companies, that is why he became the artist formely known as... they never supported any artist!!! they made money off all artist!! if it did not sell, they shipped it back for a refund. Baloney. The "record industry" deserves credit for CREATING the world of popular music (and all its sub-genres) as we know it. Without them there would have been no mass-produced recordings, no home audio industry, no 50s rock movement, not 60s rock movement, etc., no music video industry, and so forth. The formula was simple: The industry wanted to make money in order to grow, so it located talented artists, writers, recordists, producers, engineers and gave them a piece of the pie in return for a shot at stardom. And when stardom came, everyone profited, which generated more money to discover more artists, more demand for product, more and better audio systems, etc. For all and any wrongs (real or imagined), the recording industry has given us much, and I thank them. buy your cd's from the artist at their live shows!!! Nobobdy's going to make any substantial money off that, but so be it. Mass appreciation comes from mass distribution. the firms who do the "counting" (billboard etc) can not count the cd's that the artist sell... Do you hate business? |

The formula was simple: ... to make money that is the bottom line, it is not about the art or the artist. the aesthetic is inconsequential, money money money the starving artist who were exploited and dumped when they were depleted this is why Ms Raitt and others do benefit concerts. I went to one for Sippy Wallace... so it located talented artists, writers, recordists, producers, engineers and gave them a piece of the pie in return for a shot at stardom. talented artist like insync, backstreet boys or britney... And when stardom came, everyone profited, ha ha good joke, most artist did not the labels and associated personel did and screwed the artist ask John Fogerty and I thank them obviously you are not one of the artist who wrote or performed music who were exploited. buy your cd's from the artist at their live shows!!!
