So I ot tired of being the commercial studio ignoring Protools and
bought a HD3 system. At least it will mean that I can open sessions people bring in to work on straight away, although I'm not happy at the reverse step in software usability from my Cubase SX to it. Up to now I've been using a RADAR with Classic 48 I/O. Sometimes it sits there with the signal going straight into Cubase SX VIA and RME MADI and ADI 648 which are great. I've heard (and from projects coming into me to mix I've heard with my own ears) that the 192 boxes are overpriced for the quality and it is a step back from the RADAR sound quality (which I love). I've already bought 1 192 box but am wondering which way to go. A friend suggested getting a 192 Digital and simply using my RADAR as a converter but I'm not sure if I want a RADAR sitting there doing that. In any case the classic IO only goes to 48khz and I keep getting clients coming in who want to record and mix at 96khz for whatever reason. So I want to prepare my studio for that. Should I get a 192 box & put a digital card in and then buy and Apogee AD16. Or with the apogee do I even need a 192 box? I also want to know what the situation is with midi and PT. Do I really need a $1000 Digi midi interface for midi or do they at least let you use your own for that? I suspect the former! If any of you can spec me a killer system which doesnt mean a step backwards for me I'll be happy. |
