Default So what is "a Label"?

I mentioned to friend that I liked his screen handle and that it would make
a good name for a band. He responds "oh, that's the name of my Label", which
to me would be a euphemism for a "Record Company" that one works with or
owns (the latter being what he meant).

Being a good friend I'm not going to bust his chops, but it seems to me that
just coming up with a name, or even trademarking a name is not enough. To me
having a "Label" sort of implies that something is being produced that can
be labeled - like CD's that people can actually buy.

I thought it might be an interesting topic so I'm bringing it here...

Sean
