I used to own a set of Series 2 B&W 602s. I'm thinking down the road to get
another set of 602s, but in series 3. How much different do the new ones sound compared to series 2? What kind of sound do they put out? One I asked said they sound almost the same. Is this true? |

Don't bother upgrading to a series 3, as this would be a parallel move and would probably not be worth the money. They might have a little more detail and I'm sure they are better in some respects--I was strongly advised against making such an upgrade by my dealer. (I do trust them.) The 602 s2 is an excellent speaker and you will probably have to spend a great deal of money to get a significantly better speaker. For example, the 705 is probably the next step up but I imagine it is very expensive. I auditioned a set of 805s to replace my 602 s2s and was totally blown away, but ultimately wound up buying the 804 floorstanders (even better). In addition, if you do switch to an s3, you may initially like what you hear but over the long term I doubt you will be satisfied that you made any kind of significant improvement. I'd invest that money in some other component (unless you have some top notch stuff, you probably haven't pushed your 602s to their limit yet) or consider a higher end speaker if you really have the audiophile bug. ~JG |

I sold my 602s over a year ago, so basically at the moment I have nothing.
I'm just wondering if the 602 s3 are at least as good or not. They cost the same as the old ones did when new. I don't have that kind of money to go 700 series, and for my use the 602s are fine. |
