Default Small, wireless stereo mics?

I looked around google for a pair of small, wireless stereo
microphones but didn't find anything. I'm hoping to get a set with
mics roughly the size/shape of ear-bud headphones, or maybe a little
larger. I found lots of hand-held mics and a few smaller ones, but
nothing quite like what I need. Can anyone point me in the right
direction?

Define "stereo". Do you mean a single unit that transmits two
channels, or do you mean two mics, each with their own transmitter?

Define "small". Most of the "clip-on" or "lavaliere" or "body"
mics used with wireless transmitters are the size of ear-bud
headphones, and many are quite a bit smaller.

Maybe if you explain what you are trying to do we can get a
better notion of what you are looking for.

If anyone makes a stereo wireless mic, I've not seen one. The problem with
analogue wireless links tends to be the companding used which effects the
imaging. Latest digital technology might offer a solution.

The smallest pro radio mic trasmitters are still about half the size of a
packet of fags - with an external mic which can be very small. Making the
transmitter smaller is difficult due to the size of the batteries needed
for a reasonable range and life.

That's not a mic, but a transmitter you plug mics into. And I doubt the OP
would be interested at that price. ;-)

By that definition there is no such thing as a "wireless mic"! :-)

And I doubt the OP would be interested at that price. ;-)

The OP didn't state a budget, or much of anything for that matter.

I'd say most would consider an all in one design like a radio hand mic to
be just that. Some are no bigger than near equivalent corded types. And a
high quality stereo version that could be 'slung' for say classical
recordings would find many applications - if you could provide reasonable
battery life.

And I doubt the OP would be interested at that price. ;-)

You have to read between the lines on these sorts of question. ;-)

You didn't have to read between the lines to see that the OP
explicitly asked for something "roughly the size/shape of ear-bud
headphones, or maybe a little larger." In my book this precludes
any kind of "radio hand mic".

It excludes any radio mic. Unless you believe what you see on TV detective
soaps - which wouldn't surprise me.

Note the price! I guess that's why I haven't seen one :-)

Not actually that unreasonable for pro gear - it's never cheap.

There's also some questions about mixing digital and analogue mics given
the delay associated with all things digital. I've not yet tried the
zaxcom radio mics, but have heard good initial reports.

Yes, I guess I wasn't clear about what I wanted. I don't really care
about the size of the transmitter, within reason. Something the size
of a pack of cigarettes is fine. I was more concerned about the size
of the actual microphones, which I now realize have nothing to do with
the transmitter since I'd be purchasing them separately. My bad.

Anyway, if it helps, here's what I'm trying to do with the equipment:

I want to attach the microphones to the outside of a pair of wireless
headphones, one mic on each ear, giving a stereo effect. Whatever the
mics pick up would be sent off to a wireless headphone transmitter and
then back to the headphones. So the person wearing this contraption
would hear what's going on around them, but only via the headphones.
I realize there will be some sound leaking in from outside, but that's
something I'll have to live with.. at least until someone decides to
give me huge amounts of money for wireless, soundproofed headphones.

Try one of these:

Nice shiny toys at both sites. I've used Core, and got great service
from them. I've never used Giant Squid.

There is a vast range of pretty tiny mics - actually meant for 'lapel'
use, but some are ok for general stuff. Most are omni-directional, though.

The smallest ones are little bigger than a match head.

If you're mounting the microphones in close proximity to the headphones,
I'd say you'll run into feedback problems.

No, I don't believe it. That's little smaller than other pro radio mic
transmitters - and also excludes the mic. You might like to try fitting it
in your ear like an ear bud headphone, but unless you're an elephant...

TV for years have shown a 'bug' the size of your fingernail being fitted
behind a mirror etc and every word in that room being transmitted to a car
outside. It's called dramatic licence.
