I have to choose between an HW-19 Mark IV turntable with an SME 309 arm and a
Rega Planar 25 turntable with an RB 600 arm. Assume the same or similar cartridge. Any opinions on the wisest choice for classical music? |

I've heard them both but never side by side. I have compared both with a Rega
3. Based on that common comparison I'd go with the VPI. |

I think a lot has to do with how technically inclined you may be. The Rega set up is about as easy as analog gets. And once set up, it doesn't go out of adjustment. The VPI, on the other hand, is more involved a set up. Next, if your intention is that this LP player is the end of the road for you, the Rega is an excellent choice. The VPI offers something of an upgrade path. Finally, I might say that the Rega RB600 arm is better in some respects that the SME 309, and I doubt it's any poorer in any area of performance |
