Default Cool Edit 2000 ?

Hello,

I always used Cool Edit 2000 for my sound editing, but I need to re-install
Windows XP and all my software. I do not have the Cool Edit file I
downloaded many years ago. What do you recommend I do? Thank you.

Either...

Use another wave editor
- or -
Buy another copy (it's Adobe Audition now)

Audacity is a good freeware replacement.

I was hoping I can find CoolEdit 2000, somewhere, for legal download. I
think Audition is based on CoolEdit Pro.

Do you have the name and serial number that were origially
used to unlock it? You can likely get the the installer itself from
a "warez" source. The "warez" people deal in illegal distribution
of licensed software. But if you have a license, it isn't illegal.

Syntrillium was subsumed by Adobe and likely has no legal
right to continue distributing their old products officially.

I think Audition is based on CoolEdit Pro.

Yes. For some reason Adobe has never made CE2K into
an entry-level product ("Audition Elements") like they have
for several of their other popular applications (Photoshop,
Premiere, etc.) CE2K was very popular and "Audition
Elements" would be a natural product to sell to the
exploding "podcasting" market.

I think goldwave is a great audio editor yet I hardly ever hear it mentioned
when questions like this are asked. You can demo it. Check it out.

I agree. I tried the Auditions in the past, and I realized that it is too
much for my needs.

Adobe is working on a smaller audio editor called Sound Booth.

Wrong...they just announced Soundbooth, a simple, very easy to use,
consumer based product. It's geared more for the video editor that
needs to do simple edits to the audio tracks on their video, but I
think it fits your bill.

They could have immediately released CE2K as "Audition
Elements" as they did with CEP (as "Audition"). Note that
even Adobe claims that "Soundbooth" is a completely new
application that bears little resemblance to the feature set
of CE2K. And "Soundbooth" will come out, what, maybe
3-5 years after they bought CE2K and abandoned it.

In principle you took a busines risk when you failed to keep a backup of
the original download and registration information. Contact Adobe
support. Anybody could supply the main program download, but they have
to supply the small registration program, it is not a distributable
file. It may be required that they can find your registration in their
database.

They should have. Instead they left the entry level to Magix so that new
user will get accustomed to ""samplitude lite"" (Magix Music Studio) and
then go for the real thing.

The announced price is $200. At $100, it would have been very interesting
for a lot of people but at the announced price there are many other options
(including free) that are worth looking into.
