LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - In California's bustling economy, immigrants
can rise so fast their language skills may lag behind their buying power, which consumer advocates say landed many non-English speaking borrowers with subprime mortgages they did not want. Mortgage brokers have been slipping through loopholes in state civil codes requiring lenders to provide mortgage disclosure documents -- delineating interest rates, payment amounts and other vital deal points -- in the language in which the transaction was negotiated. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070316/..._immigrants_dc How cool is that, toopid? Allowing the market to work, AND sticking it to those bothersome immigrants! Right in your home state! A very nice double-whammy, if I do say so! Congrats! |

Of course the simple solution, they learn English never occurred to you. Meanwhile you like paying for this program as they can't charge non-English speakers for the extra cost of maintaining all those different language docs. Not to mention the 17% still forced to do their business in their non-native language. What happenned to equal treatment under the law? How did you find a broker who spoke Twilight Zonese? ScottW |

Um, toopid, most of these "docs" are on computer. Can you show me a calculation as to how much "extra cost" is incurred? And can you tell me why some slimy people slipping through a loophole to take advantage of someone does not bother you, with your black-and- white sense of what's right or wrong? Or does that sense only apply to non-immigrants? Not to mention the 17% still forced to do their business in their non-native language. What happenned to equal treatment under the law? As I said, toopid: Isn't it great? How did you find a broker who spoke Twilight Zonese? They had one at the VA. Those of us who've served get to use them.;-) |

Um, toopid, most of these "docs" are on computer. Can you show me a calculation as to how much "extra cost" is incurred? Sure....2 + 2 + 1 = 3 .. What do you come up with? And can you tell me why some slimy people slipping through a loophole to take advantage of someone does not bother you, with your black-and- white sense of what's right or wrong? Its awful. But somehow I suspect if the guy could be talked into signing docs he didn't understand then he could still be made a victim with spanish language docs. Fraud is a problem, but I'm not certain they have the root cause identified. Or does that sense only apply to non-immigrants? You wouldn't be using a service that discriminates against non-english speaking veterans now would you? You're a bigger hypocrite than Al Gore and John Edwards. ScottW |
