Default Sound Project

Some months ago, I decided to build up on my existing system and so require
some opinions on the matter.

I am interested in listening to anyone that has tried/tested/used NAD's
208THX Amplifier in either bridged or non-bridged mode?

I own a pair of recently purchased B&W 801's Matrix Series 3 speakers and
have one NAD 208THX amplifier to run the pair and use a Denon 2800 as a
pre-out for the amp. I also use the 2800 to run all of my other speakers in
surround mode. For two channel listening, I use the 208THX with the 801's
only.

I am looking at replacing the 2800 with a dedicated pre-processor with
either the likes of Lexicon's MC-1, Bryston's Sp1.7 or a Denon high-end
pre-processor which I believe is on the hoizon. I will use the
pre-proceesor to connect to all my components using balanced XLR inputs, eg:
NAD 208THX and Denon DCD-3000.

My aim is to bi-amp my speakers; a pair of low frequency amps to run the
lows on each speaker and one high frequecy amp to run the highs. I must also
consider amps that will be able to run my speakers as the B&W 801's are very
inefficient.

I have also been in the hunt for a pair of JBL XPL-200 Speakers (haven't
found a pair due to location - Australia), which after reading from reviews
and listening to peope around the traps, eats the B&W 801's for breakfast.
I have been able to purchase the much rare and sought after, not one but a
pair of JBL DX-1 external active crossovers for the JBL XPL-200's, which
when connected, rivals speakers costing 10 times its purchase price, even
more.

In order to setup a bi-amp system, requires bypassing the internal passive
crossovers, which B&W left no faicility for doing so withh their 801's.
Unless I somehow get my way into the 801's and make a modification to bypass
the internal crossovers, I'm not prepared to destroy a pair of 801's by
doing so. Having said this, I think there's no point heading down the path
in purchasing Bryston's 10BST Crsossover. I was looking at Bryston's 10BST
crossover for the B&W 801's but these speakers do not have a bypass switch
to completely disconnect the internal passive crossovers so you will not
effectively bypass the internal crossover.

On the other hand, JBL's XPL-200's has a bypass switch to disconnect the
internal passover crossover and the hookup of an external crossover, hence
my purchase of the DX-1's.

I have one NAD 208THX amp and looking for a second one to run them both in
bridged mode for bottm ends and another amplifier to run the high's. Anyone
have any suggestions as to what might be an excellent high frequency
companion amp for the 208's, together providing lows and highs to the B&W
801's or JBL's XPL200's!!!

I'm interested in those that have performed mods on the 208, what it is they
did and what improvements were made after performing the mods, if any?

Will Bryston's 10B-ST crossover be suitable for B&W 1800?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers
MAK.
