I did part of the old Chadwick mod on this tuntable by getting rid of
masonite bottom board and putting leveling points at the bottom. This made a wonderful improvement in sound from the way it was. The only problem is : on my soft wood floors, it is very ease to jar the stylus. Specifically, is there an adjustment that I can make to soften the suspension so that it would be more like the original AR turntable whose suspension it was based on? (thus making it more imune from external vibrations). Suggestions/instructions for softening platter/arm suspension appreciated...Dave |

I would like to second Norman's solution. I did exactly as he described with
my TD-165 and it worked like a charm! (This was about 20 years ago) Ron "Norman Schwartz" wrote in message news:AZxnb.37826$275.74412@attbi_s53... Softening the plinth/arm mount is not a good idea, but removing the
coupling you have via the spikes is. You could try some very soft, say Navcom, Sorbothane feet. The best solution is to leave the spikes and then rest the table on a custom made "sandbox" with a thick board resting beneath the table and on the sand as it's base. This will dissipate any external energy before it reaches the table. It works similarly to the removal of the masonite bottom as it does not allow resonances to build, yet it removes the coupling with the floor while maintaining rigidity in the deck itself. - Bill www.uptownaudio.com Roanoke VA (540) 343-1250 "Ron Stewart" wrote in message news:Jlznb.51767$e01.128480@attbi_s02...
