![]() Hi All, I just started having a problem where the 1st tracks on quite a few CD's are skipping on my Sony changer. Some skip worse than others. All these CDs are clean, any idea what the problem may be? Again, it's only the 1st tracks that skip. I've got the changer filled up w/400 CDs, any idea if the repair could be done without taking all the discs out? I'm bummin', I bought this in 2/02 and it's worked fine until now. I use it almost everyday. Thanks. Dan Remove NOSPAM from address when replying |

Some folks have had the problem and solved it simply by opening the unit and "dusting" the laser pickup and surrounding area with an "air can" dust remover. Others have found this possibly to help temporarily, but have had to have SONY service do a chip replacement to solve the problem. If it's an ES player it may still be under warranty....visit Sony's website and then contact their factory service. |

Common causes are the laser is weakening with use, the mechanical alignment
is going out of spec due to worn mechanical parts, or there is dirt on the laser head. I would first try cleaning the laser. If the problem is more serious, you will have to replace the player. Servicing them is not practical, unless it is a very high end model. -- JANA _____ "Dan" wrote in message ... Skipping on the first track is often a symptom of a spindle motor problem. Of course the laser lens should be cleaned, and the rail and slide surfaces re-lubed, also the rack gear of the laser should have the old lithium grease cleaned off and new grease re-applied. But a drop of light oil at the spindle motor shaft (and the sled motor shaft, for that matter) is highly recommended. Do use a bit of tissue to suck away the excess. Mark Z. |

The sled motor/gear/track is more likely the problem, probably some crud preventing travel all the way to the end. |
