Picture this.
In North Carolina, the Mendelssohn String Quartet with Robert Mann (of Juliard fame) sitting in as second Viola records Mendelssohns String Quintets Nos. 1 and 2. In five channel native DSD. In Belgium, Pieter Wispelwey on Cello and Dejzn Lazic on Piano sit down to play the Sonatas for Cello and Piano by Mssrs. Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Britten. In five channel native DSD. In Harry Lavo's living room, a Sony XA2000ES SACD player decodes the DSD from those two locations using native one-bit DSD decoding and feeds it via analog outs to Harry's Audio Research and Audionics preamps, which in turn pass the signals on to five 200-300wpc Outlaw monoblock amplifiers, which in turn regale five full range Thiel loudspeakers (3.5's and 2 2's) with their current. On the couch, Harry lays back and relaxes, throws a light afghan over his body for warmth, and prepares to listen. His resident son is gone for the weekend. The house is quiet except for the low murmur of the air circulation fan in the basement. (...to be continued) |

How about listening to a Mozart string quartet in a chamber at the Castel San Angelo, with members of the Rome Philharmonic Orchestra playing to about 20 people? Shhhh! sits back in a chair, imagining that this is how the music was written to be performed... I happened to be there at the right time. A woman asked me, "Are you here for the performance?" I'm glad I asked her what she meant. toopid, for example, would've said, "No!" and continued on. |

Did Arnii just characterize his churchy business as "so-called reproductions of music"? That would seem to be the case. We'll have to wait to see how we misunderstood what he said. |
