Let's say I'm driving along with the needle pinned perfectly on 40
miles per hour. The car -- a Chevy Cavalier, 95, 2.2 -- will from time to time start lurching, surging, bucking. Can't decide if I'm loosing a smidgen of power for a split second or if getting a temporary blast of speed. Most times it's subtle -- a small but definately noticeable, variance from a steady operating speed -- but lately it has been getting more pronounced where you wonder if the thing is going to stall out. Happens at other speeds as well. But doesn't seem to occur when idling or slowing down, and haven't noticed it when accelerating (yet). And it hasn't gone so far as to stall yet. What are some things I could check out? Am in the process of replacing the fuel filter as it 70,000 miles over due. Brian |
