I'm considering buying a Yamaha DM1000 or 2000, but after working with the
console I have one big complaint: the knobs (er, rotary encoders) are way too slow. It takes several full turns to pan left or right, or to go from 0 to infinity on an aux send, or whatever. It seems like the encoders "skip" a lot if you turn them too fast. Has anyone noticed this and, better, come up with a workaround? I thought there might be a preference for "encoder acceleration speed" or some such, but there doesn't seem to be one. Jay Levitt |

I don't use the channel encoders on my 02R96 very often - I usually use the encoder on the Data Entry and Transport portion of the control surface. It has a finger hole, and I can spin it faster. I use my left hand to select functions to adjust by touching knobs. I use my right hand to navigate the LCD screen and turn the big encoder wheel. I thought there might be a preference for "encoder acceleration speed" or some such, but there doesn't seem to be one. Never found that, but I agree that it could be useful. |

The LS9 looks nice, but it's aimed at sound reinforcement - there's no Pro Tools / Nuendo / Cubase / etc. control like the DM2000 has, which is a key requirement for me. I wonder if, over time, I'll end up doing the same - but I suspect I'll want to reserve that as a scrub wheel. Jay |
