Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any answers for problems using logic
platinum 5.5 with new 64 bit hardware? I'm aware its a fairly old sequencer nowadays and was wondering if there are any incompatibility problems with new hardware? I'm using logic with XP pro and am consistently getting stability problems - Logic appears stable on its own but is very unstable whenever I try to run external effects / vst instruments with it namely: garritan personal orchestra, stylus, atmosphere, drumkit from hell, east west symphonic orhestra. At seemingly random points logic will come up with the following warning messages: 'not enough memory for operation', 'out of memory! couldn't insert or delete data', 'reentrant in uperiodic'. It is generally unstable and crashes easily if pushed too hard with vst instrument apps. With an older system these instruments all worked fine but I have recently upgraded to a system based around an Asus p5b deluxe and an intel core duo e6600 2.4 gig dual cpu, with 2 gig RAM. The system was purchased from a reliable UK audio pc manufacter (millenium music) so i presume all the hardware is fine. I have tried using both creamware scope project, and m audio delta 10 10 soundcards in the system and have had the same problems with both. (I have used ghost to restore the system so no files could have been left from old soundcard drivers) I have also tried setting logic to run from a single processer using the windows task manager, processes window but this hasnt made any difference. Aside from sacking logic off and using cubase I'm fresh out of ideas - can anyone help? |

Lots of older apps have problems with dual core cpus, and even hyperthreading on single core (older versions of giga for example). Check the bios for a setting to disable the second core and I bet you will be in business. Chuck |

It's perfectly happy with two processors, though it won't use the second unless encouraged- there's a trick to it I can't recall just now. Do some googling, you might find it. |

Check the bios for a setting to disable the second core and I bet you will be in business. Another myth. But it is completely understandable how, if you haven't been a programmer, that you don't understand it. You can be a very intelligent person, and still not understand. Bob Morein Dresher, PA (215) 646-4894 Hi Bob, I've been a programmer for the past 23 years, but that's not really important here, that's more of a response to the stinging blow to my ego, hahaha :-). I am basing the idea I posted on two things: 1. Explicit instructions in Gigastudio 3 to disable hyperthreading in the bios. 2. Experience with the Ensoniq PARIS daw, which will not run reliably on any dual core CPU unless the second core is disabled in the bios. Some of you here will remember me from back in PARIS days. Ove the years I ported a number of plugs from the Ensoniq COBRA environment from the DP/PRO, which required learning the proprietary and closed ESP2 DSP assembly language from details gleanded from the patent (USPTO) , and programming GUIS in C++ and assembler. Several of the original Ensoniq developers assisted with this. We also created WDM drivers that allowed paris to migrate from Win9x to XP, and kept the platform viable for a couple of years after EMU dumped it. More response to the stinging blow to my ego :-) Anyway, I try not to post junk, and derive technical advice from personal experience. Chuck Chuck |

GPO does not work with 5.5 due to logic automaticaly resetting the mod value
(mapped to vol) to zero when the daw is stopped? or has gary g fixed this. I know there is a tedious work around. Putting 2GB as 1G x 2 dual channel from 2 x 512 has fixed some of my glitching. I have no experience with 64bit or dual core but I would guess you will need updated drivers for both soundcards. Problems I have had are often traced back to one vst trashing the stability normaly NI stuff but also wizoo and others. I guess they are fine on newer daw's. I use 5.5 on a 3.4Athlon xp with 2G and have "upgraded" my power a year ago by running Gigastudio on a similar machine with 3G of memory linking the two via spdif. A great system. ![]() good luck "Natalie Drest" wrote in message ... "Chuck" wrote in message ups.com...
