Hello, I am planning to replace my center Kef 200c with one of the
brands listed he Revel C30, Thiel (?), PSB C4, Aerial CC3, Vienna Grand Maestro, Sonus Faber Domus Center. I have no access to audition most of them and I was hoping to get an experienced opinion. Probably difficult to achieve, but I am looking for a speaker that could match well my front full range speakers, the Kef 107. The Kef 200C is a great speaker but sounds too different from the front sides. I would appreciate your inputs. Thank you. |

To answer your question means that we must know the tonal balance of the KEF speakers in your room....only you can know that. Next best would be to a couple of KEF dealers to determine if they have a better KEF center (some brands have two levels), or could recommend another brand that matched. |

That is part of the problem. The Kef 107 are vintage speakers and not
everyone, even sellers, are familiar with them any longer. The new line of Kef speakers have a complete different concept from the ref. 107 which were build in the 80's - early 90's, before the advent of surround sound. I did go to a couple a stores and a salesperson suggested to look at the Vienna's. Incidentally it was not available in the auditioning room. I have been reading over the internet a lot and I am reaching the point to go mad... Thank for your reply. On Jan 30, 12:08 pm, "Harry Lavo" wrote: "fid" wrote in ooglegroups.com... I was happy with stereo tv with high-quality speakers before I found a matching center. Another silly-but-sensible option would be to match center and surrounds. This arrangement can be adequate for casual tv and movie watching. I doubt if it would match, but the Martin-Logan center is pretty good. Stephen |

I see your dilemma,,,,,perhaps you should look on ebay for a closely related model, only bookshelf-sized, which you could use as a center channel...if it matched, you've got your center. If not, perhaps they would be tolerable as rears, and for the time being you can set your receiver to "no center" and just use the system as quads. If you try this approach, just make sure you lift it off the floor by at least 8"-12", or else you are likely to get bass-heavy sound. |
