I noticed a reference to Panasonic S-55 upsampling in a recent thread
and went back to look at my older RP-91 manual and noticed a feature I hadn't used called remaster. It has 4 settings, off, 1,2,3. The manual indirectly reveals the remaster is for upsampling as it says it is usually reserved for users of the analogue outputs but if you are using digital output be sure the equipment on the other end can handle higher sampling rates. It gives very little clue on what difference 1, 2, or 3 is only to recommend using 1 for pop, 2 for jazz and 3 for classical. I never used this player for music except my few DVD video and DVD-As w/o remaster on. So I tried it on 3 (classical) against my AMC CD-9 and it definitely gives a different presentation. String snap and subtle fret noises we more discernable and the stage came forward. High-end was extended and seemed a bit elevated but definitely clearer. Female vocals seemed more present than before. Kind of cool, like finding a hidden secret upgrade in my gear ![]() ScottW |

Kinda weird to assign the different filters to genres, but maybe the marketing isn't meant for me. Stephen |
