I recently purchased two replacement woofers for A60 Boston Acoustic
speakers. I have never replaced woofers in a speaker cabinet before and would like some direction as to how to proceed. I have been unable to find any diagrams or directions to assist me. To |

Find something to pull the grill cloth off; it's held in place with velcro tabs. Now you see the woofer. Remove the several screws holding it to the box. Put 'em somewhere safe. Prise gently around the rim of the woofer. Poof! It's free. Lift; observe wiring color and placement; pull wiring loose; forget wiring color; go look at other speaker; write it down; lose the paper. Figure out what you want to do about the gasket. Did they include a new one? Good. Go find your lost wiring color diagram (hint: it's on a tiny scrap torn off an envelope; if not, you're a pussy). Plug 'em in, screw 'em down. Enjoy some lovely old speakers. Lift; observe wiring color and placement; pull wiring loose; forget wiring color; go look at other speaker; write it down; lose the paper. Often the speaker will have a red dot next to one terminal. If you're lucky, that's the one the red wire goes to. Figure out what you want to do about the gasket. Did they include a new one? Good. Did they not include one? Then you can make a circle of 3M Strip-Calk around the woofer hole before installing the new woofer. It's soft window caulk, and it makes a nice gasket. Peace, Paul |

It's never worth the risk of having it slip and go through the cone. Put the screws down some distance away from the speaker units, preferably in a closed container. The speaker magnets will attract loose screws into their innards from some distance away, with considerable force; and you will only do more damage if you attempt to pull them free with steel pliers. For the same reason, put the speakers down on several thicknesses of clean newspaper. If you don't, and there are any iron filings or small metal objects embedded in the workbench or floor, they will soon find their way into your new speakers. -- ~ Adrian Tuddenham ~ (Remove the ".invalid"s and add ".co.uk" to reply) www.poppyrecords.co.uk |

Screw the new one in. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
