I've read good things about it. Sure you say 'pseudo tube', but, is
the preamp any good? If you don't think so, what would be comparable
to it? Something 1-2 channel price range around $300.

AFAIK, the MPA mic preamp SS circuitry is of the same ilk as the mic
preamps in a $39 Behringer mic mixer, or worse. BTW, these are not
necessarily bad circuits, just not exceptional. The tube is just an EFX.
Most knowlegable recordists say track clean and add the EFX during mixdown,
when you have lots of time to try different stuff.

If you don't think so, what would be comparable to it? Something 1-2
channel price range around $300.

One of the most widely respected $300 stereo mic preamps is made by
Symmetrix - I think the current model is 302. Or for about half the price,
pick up a used 202 on eBay. I picked up a 202 that way a few years back, and
IME it is as good as knowlegable people say it is.
