Default beogram 8000 turntable repair any shadetree repair techs out there? s

I have a beogram 8000 turntable that had sat about 2 or 3 years while my
kids grew to keep them away so i got it out played it found the tonearm belt
was bad replaced it added some white lithium grease to the worm gear and now
the tonearm won't go all the way out to the record or set down on the record
the display flickers and the tone arm moves just barely then goes back to
its resting place any one with this problem or diagonosed this before?
