Default Not all the bells and whistles surround amplifier

As I lost all in Katrina, I've been trying to find a replacement
surround system with a surround amplifier just to use with my hdtv,
upconvert dvd, and hd sat. All I find are gizmos that have hookups for
iPods, HDD, on and on. If someone could point me to a mfgr that keeps
it simple, please let me know.

Jim,

I have no knowledge of surround amp, but I just want to send you my good
wishes. I hope that life is improving every day.

NAD and Arcam come to mind. Pioneer Elite, maybe.

You really want the video upconverter on DVD? That puts you in a
whole new class of surround amps. I suggest you pass on that,
and look at bottom end of Pioneer, Yamaha, Sony.

For example...this is about as simple as it gets right now.

Heres a Sony STR-DG500 that converts composite video to component and
doesn't cost anymore. Not sure if thats what you want.

How about upconverting in your DVD player? Check out the Toshiba D-R5
which upconverts if your TV has HDMI input.

Red Rose Music has an integrated five-channel analog-only amplifier.
Combine it with a multi-channel and HDMI digital switcher from Zektor, and
you've got a simple, class multichannel system. Will set you back about
$5500, though.
