I seen Sting on the Xmas at Rockefeller Plaza show playing a song from the
1,600's. Gee ya really gotta go way back to find royalty free songs to play nowadays. :-) -- remove "spamtrap" in return address for replys. http://web.nccray.net/jshodges/mommasaid/sss.htm 20% of all sales goes to the local food pantry. Many times I have been to the Wigmore Hall to hear Emma Kirkby accompanied by Anthony Rooley on lute, and it sounded nothing like Sting and his crooning (thank goodness). d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

Part of the alternative view is that nobody really knows how people sang John Dowland's music in his own time, and that it may not have been the preserve of trained professional "art" singers. But I agree Sting is no competition for Emma Kirkby's "artfully artless" singing style, for sheer listening pleasure. Anahata |

Of course I would have doubted Sting would ever record an album of Dowland. -Jay -- x------- Jay Kadis ------- x ---- Jay's Attic Studio ----x x Lecturer, Audio Engineer x Dexter Records x x CCRMA, Stanford University x http://www.offbeats.com/ x x---------- http://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jay/ ------------x |

They also had saws, washboards, a guitarron and a bassoon too. They weren't.... normal... --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

There are an awful lot of those about. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

a mono-sodium lutenist ? Wonder if he's using gut strings, or would that
run counter to his animal rights credo....or have I got him mixed up with Chrissie Hynde ? Ray "anahata" wrote in message ... Jay Kadis wrote: The lutenist is Edin Karamazov.
