... Just wanted to some thoughts as to what amps would be best suited to drive JBL XPL-200 or the B&W 801 Matrix Series 3 Speakers? I am looking at bi or multiple amping the speakers so low and high frequency must be taken into consideration. Does anyone have an comments, thoughts or advice on using Carver's M-1.0t amps for these speakers? Regards Mark I have the B&W M2s w/ upgraded crossovers--I'm currently using a pair of bridged NAD C270s. The B&Ws are inefficient (86db?)so they require quite a bit of power. How much do you want to spend? |

I am looking at bi or multiple amping the speakers so low and high frequency must be taken into consideration. Does anyone have an comments, thoughts or advice on using Carver's M-1.0t amps for these speakers? Carver power amps are notoriously "slow" -- there's a "softness" to the mid-bass and a lack of "punch" to transients due (ostensibly) to poor rise time/slew rate, or perhaps just due to the ineffectiveness of their trick power supply. In any case, I would think a "warm" speaker like the B&W would not be a good match with this sort of amp. Of course, the B&W is an excellent speaker; I'd just find a different amp to compliment it. (Could I possibly use any more scare quotes in this post?) |
