Default Basic question: using DVD players for CDs

This is an embarrassingly basic question.

In previous threads, DVD players by Marantz (6600) and Pioneer have been
recommended as reasonably priced replacements for older CD players. My
stereo system is in a studio behind my house, a long way from a television
set. How can I control such a DVD player in my system (such as selecting
tracks to be played) using the DVD remote control?.

If the DVD player can play SACDs (as the 6600 can), how can I control what
SACD signals are output to my stereo system?

Regards,

Ed
