Default Source for bitumen panels?

Anyone know where I can get these at a good price? Wimslow audio's are a bit
dear and too thin, madisound's deflex panels are not the same thing, Falcon
acoustics are not trading any more... Anyone?

You might want to check out automobile door and panel sound-damping
materials.

There are a couple of types in wide use. One variety is sold under
brand names such as Dynamat and Fat Mat - it's an
asphault/bitumen-based mat with a contact adhesive on the back. If I
recall correctly it needs to be heated, and then pressure-rolled onto
whatever material it's being used to damp.

Another (more expensive but usually considered more effective) is a
butyl-based material (often a mixture of butyl and a dense filler such
as rock powder), which usually has a thin aluminum backing. The butyl
is extremely sticky and does not need to be heated to adhere well...
just peel off the protective paper layer and press it into place. The
version I bought and applied to my car (with excellent results) is
RAAM Mat, and I understand that Dynamat Xtreme and Brown Bread are two
other types which are similar.

A more pedestrian (or at least less automotive) possibility is
roofing. Fiber-and-bitumen material is often sold in sheets or rolls
as a roof covering. Look for a "torch-down roofing" material.

Roofing felt stuck onto a sheet of hardboard. A thin layer will work
better if it is sandwiched between two sheets of board.

Use a latex contact adhesive (sold in large tins at builders' merchants
much cheaper than the DIY tubes of the stuff) - do not rely on roofing
bituminised mastic, which softens in hot weather.

Automotive bodywork shops. They stick 'em inside door panels.
