Default Amp Help??? Rotel RB-1090 or Odyssey Stratos Mono Extreme?

Hi, hoping someone can help me out here. I need to buy an
amp and need help choosing between these two:

Rotel RB-1090 (dual mono 380wpc)
Odyssey Stratos Mono Extreme (300wpc)

As I understand it, the Odyssey cost only about 1/3 to 1/2 the retail
cost from buying direct from Odyssey. If this is true, will I be
getting better sound from the Odyssey or is the Rotel still in the same
class as the Odyssey?

My understand is that "The Absolute Sound" did a review on the
Rotel RB-1090 and the Odyssey in issue 128 - Feb/March 2001
but I cannot find any info on that review except at "The Absolute Sound"
where they want you to pay to read the review and I'm not a subscriber
to their site so I don't know what conclusions they came to as to which
had the better sound quality.

Can some of you experts on sound equipment give me some honest advice
on these amps or any other advice you may have to quide me in the right
direction? Thanks much!!!! C.Sanders

Try the local library for the magazines also. Consumer's Digest is the
same way with their web site, but you can get the hardcopy mag at the
library.

No, the Odyssey Audio Stratos is 150 wpc)

As I understand it, the Odyssey cost only about 1/3 to 1/2
the retail cost from buying direct from Odyssey. If this is

Per article review:
Rotel RB-1090, $1,995.
Odyssey Audio Stratos, $995.

My understand is that "The Absolute Sound" did a review
on the Rotel RB-1090 and the Odyssey in issue 128 -
Feb/March 2001 ... so I don't know what conclusions they
came to as to which had the better sound quality.

The story was coauthored. Seydor wrote in regards to
the Rotel RB-1090, “”I’ll state right now that, all around, I
think it the best of the group” (four amps reviewed). With
caveat to also check out Marsh MSD A400S and less
expensive Quad 909. Gader’s “Conclusion” makes no
reference to the four amps under review, but does
earlier write “It would be a close call between the Rotel
and the Odyssey.”

Can some of you experts on sound equipment give
me some honest advice on these amps or any other
advice you may have to quide me in the right
direction?

Consider the requirements of your existing and/or
future speaker needs... min/max watts and the
impedance rating, for example, are important
considerations. Also consider the volume/size of the
room and what maximum sound pressure expectations
you have. And as Gader concluded “listen” before you
buy.
