Default Marantz, Pioneer Elite, Yamaha

Looking to buy a high end AV receiver - some bells and whistles are
important but most important to me is the two channel audio reproduction. I
like the sound of the Marantz amps over the Yamaha but have found a pretty
good deal on a comparable Pioneer Elite Unit of which I have not had an
opportunity to listen to. Looking for some input..the Marantz unit I'm
considering is the sr7001 and the Yamaha is the RX- V2700.

Why ? Is the perception of high-end more important than other features ?

In what way ? What was the test condition ?

I can't comment but I've heard nice things of Denons too btw.

The Marantz sound, to me, has more warmth and detail while the Yamaha seems
a little shrill and fragile relative to the Marantz. I'm simply asking for
opinions or shared conventional wisdoms on quality or characteristics of the
Pioneer Elite's sound. Not really interested in psychoanalysis thank you.

Were you listening to them with the same speakers ?

Good point.

Perhaps it is time to get serious about product auditions!

Were the loudness levels matched?

Was the identical same music being played?

Were the receivers auditioned side-by-side in the same room?

We've recently talked about the same issues related to other components.
People hear differences when two different components are playing, but
nothing's the same. Different music, different speakers, different rooms,
and the levels aren't matched. These all make profound differences in sound
quality.

There might be some large dealers that carry both Marantz and Yamaha, but a
lot of smaller ones carry only one or the other. That means that auditioning
receivers with the same music, the same speakers, the same rooms, and at the
same loudness levels is pretty much impossible.

The Krooborg's reason for being is revealed through the clouds.

More to the point, who is the psychiatrist who allegedly "treated" you?
Was it the same bozo who certified ScottW as high-functioning and able
to fend for himself in human society?

Arnii, you're doing it again. Check your shirt for spittle.

I'm not really up on the very new Pioneers, but in general I've usually
thought of Pioneer's "house sound" as being more akin to the Marantz's than
to the Yamaha's. FWIW.

I do like Marantz for their 2-channel components.
I own the PM70001KI amp and the 63KI CD player.

As for home entertainment, Yamaha is well known
for their receivers and I would find it difficult
to choose between the two. I suggest you give
both a listen side-by-side and then decide. You
can't go wrong with either.

As for Pioneer - I would rather not comment as I
have no experience with their AV equipment.
