Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
My 21 year old son just bought a used Nissan Sentra with a music system
containing some kind of power booster in the trunk along with what looks like an 18 inch subwoofer in box. He was playing the usual young people's bass heavy music, shaking the car and disturbing the whole neighbourhood. I came outside and told him when he was through, I would play a cd in his car that would test the system to its limits, and we would see if it could REALLY handle deep bass. I got my above captioned cd and told him to crank up his bass to the level that he usually played it. Well, on the opening cut "Time" the whole car rattled uncontrollably, the subwoofer would not stop on the heart beat thumps making them sound like a jack hammer. When we brought the sound down to a "normal" listening level, it was obvious that the bass could only manage the same thump no matter what the bass note actually was. Smug and gloating, I told him that this cd was handled with ease on my AR LST system, never mind my Quad ESL 63/Gradient system. Now he is dissatisfied with the car system and wants something that would produce deeper, cleaner bass and overall more refined sound. Just thought I would share the triumph of a 60 year old foggy over a brash young 'un. ESTG/ .. |

Yeah, young people growing up in an age of MP3s, computer and surround sound subwoofers, and fake rap bass don't know what real bass sounds like. And I'm not saying that in a "ya know when we were kids we had to get up in the middle of our albums to flip them over" kind of way. I mean they really just don't get reality. |

I was hoping he might have bust the lousy sub and spared the local residents years of aural abuse. Graham |
