I am thinking about buying a new amp and would like to know how much power I need. My current amp is rated at 25 watts and I never put the volume knob past the 1/3 point and I never have problems playing music LOUD enough. Is the power usage proportional to the volume knob position, am I always using less than 12 watts? TIA Rather than attempt to discuss volume control settings (which is not really accurate for measuring power), let's get to your issue. Since 25 watt (or higher) amps are relatively cheap and plentiful, why not just stick with something that has at least that much power? If it's going to be in the same room/position as the old amp, and drive the same speakers, and you are happy with the power you now have, simply purchase a new amp with the same (or higher) amount of power. -- % Randy Yates % "Maybe one day I'll feel her cold embrace, %% Fuquay-Varina, NC % and kiss her interface, %%% 919-577-9882 % til then, I'll leave her alone." %%%% % 'Yours Truly, 2095', *Time*, ELO http://home.earthlink.net/~yatescr |
