![]() "Don McRitchie" wrote in message ... I recently returned from a trip to Tokyo at the invitation of JBL and Harman Japan for the celebration of JBL's 60th anniversary. The key event was the introduction of JBL's highest statement loudspeaker ever produced - the $60,000 Everest DD66000. A photo essay of the entire trip can be found he http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/...ead.php?t=12157 If you want to cut to the chase, the second day thread has several pictures of the DD66000. It looks like something JBL built to pander to the Japanese market. |

It looks like something JBL built to pander to the Japanese market. How is it pandering? It appears to me that it is overbuilt in ways that might appeal to high end Japanese consumers. Are you suggesting it's not very good? No, I'm suggesting that JBL could do at least as well with far less umm, conspicious techology. I do have my suspicions about the design of the midrange and tweeter horns. I'm somewhat familiar with the shapes of the most optimal modern horns, and I don't recognize those as being modern. The tweeter especially looks like a retread of EV's T35, which is not all that great by modern standards. |

Some Japanese have *unusual* discernment in audio. If you look at all 5 sequences of photos pointed by the link: http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...ad.php?t=12157 You'll see some *interesting* stuff. |
