Default MSB DAC

I was wondering how the MSB LINK DAC (original or III) compares to the Rega
Planet CD Player (original not 2000) and Cambridge 500SE CD player?

How does the sound compare?

All good DACs sound pretty much the same. It's easier for a DAC that is
internal to the player to have low jitter. There are $40 DVD players that
have internal DACs of sufficient quality to fully exploit the sound quality
of any commercial CD.

Pay no attention to this unadultered bull****.
DACs do make a difference.

Sure, in that it will play one, through a stereo. (BTW: "exploit" is
almost never indicative of something good).

But to help answer the question... it is perhaps unlikely (maybe even
very unlikely) that you will note a significant difference between the
MSB and the Rega DACs. They are both well made pieces. However, either
will sound the same as the $40 DVD player through $50 radio shack
speakers but, either will sound far better than the $40 DVD through
speakers of ascending quality. The same applies for a power source.

Also when looking at reviews, ignore all the gushing and pay attention
to the stuff the reviewer compared it to, e.g., a $1000 CD player
compared with $500 to $1500 equipment versus a $350 DAC matched up
against "high end" stuff ranging up to $2000 - $3000, I think thats a
real review...
