Crispness is not something that would be my main criteria in selecting a speaker. It is not even in the top 3. I ask myself how close the speakers come to a live performance. Of course, nothing is perfect, so there may be other tradeoffs involved such as imaging, extended bass response, etc. I suggest that you go to a symphonic concert that features a well known piece that you like. Listen to the instruments individually and collectively. Does the kettle drum at the concert sound the same through your system? Triangle? Harp? etc. Then actually score your system. What are its strengths and weaknesses? What traits are most important to you? How does that relate to the speaker's strengths and weaknesses based on design? For example, cone and dome speakers are a different beast than a horn based system and as such they have different strengths and weaknesses. I spent a fair amount of research time before went to audition speakers. I am still extremely happy with my decision after 2 years of daily use. I may upgrade to the "top of the line", but that will set me back over $10k per pair, so I am saving my money. r -- Nothing beats the bandwidth of a station wagon filled with DLT tapes. |

The important part is to reseach available designs, learn the strong and weak points and then make an informed decision before auditioning. If one cannot or will not make an effort in researching various designs, then time and money is generally wasted. r -- Nothing beats the bandwidth of a station wagon filled with DLT tapes. |
