Default Anyone know who makes these speakers?

I don't shop Abercrombie & Fitch, but I was in one the other day with my
wife and heard some pretty impressive sound from the speakers they are
using in their stores.

Anyone know what brand & model these are? I would like to audition a set
that isn't in the store.

I have seen (heard) them in 3 different stores now, so I am guessing it is
chain-wide.

The system consists of 2 white satellites, each with a small green arrow
on them and the word "play" underneath. There is also a powered sub that
is concealed in the ceiling and is otherwise not visible aside from a red
power LED. Anyone know anything about these? Who makes them? What model
are they? Where can I find them to take a serious listen to?

Thanks!

Don't listen to them, just buy them.
You'll get the sound you deserve.

The question is puzzler. What difference does it make who makes them? Do
you want to find a better price now that A&F has demonstrated them to you
and sold you on them, or do you want a home audition? A home audition is as
easy as buying them from A&F and taking them home for your audition. If
they are unsatisfactory return them for a refund.

I understand that the PA system at Pet Co might be worth an audition.

Shows you what you know. After some research, it turns out it is Tannoy

Like I said - the sound was good enough to pique my interest to the point
where I would want to listen to them in an environment OTHER than in their

part, and not go rambling on above about stuff that was never talked

The Sixes series, for instance.
Though they're about 10 years old, now.

If you want to go into the "monstrous" part, that would be interesting.
It's been a while since I heard any. I recall a single-driver bookshelf
type. It had typical English sound, mellow and laid back. Probably long
discontinued though.

Especially the ones with the "coaxial driver" sound horrible when
listening slightly off-axis.
But not as horrible as when in the sweet spot. They'll sand-blast your
ears off.
I've seen this driver in almost every Tannoy product I've encountered.

Now, the old Monitor Reds, that's a different story. Ugly as hell, but
very pleasing sound. And LOUD!
I've heard these in a studio some years back, they were driven by
QUAD II tube amps. My ears still ring.

You dare not guess about *anything*, I'm afraid. You've already made a
muck of your rep, and posting your homepage doesn't exactly peg you as
a computer superman. Here's a hint - you might want to update it more
often than every millennium.

Oh wait, you've got an ICQ# and a domain. You *must* know
*everything*.

Tannoy isn't what it used to be, however.

Wow. And this is supposed to be the mecca of expert audio opinion?

No. That was your FIRST mistake.

It's just an opinion USENET unmoderated newsgroup.

First there's the first word - opinion.
Second word - USENET (is it starting to sink in now?
Third word - unmoderated. Uh oh, the picture is coming into focus.
And now the slamdunk - the fourth word - newsgroup.

Time for you to go hang out in the student union and troll for
underage drinkers.

I can see that posting to this newsgroup asking for input and feedback on
quality audio was a COMPLETE waste of time. What a bunch of clueless
idiots.

I hope that this is your exit statement. But something tells me it
isn't.

And this is choice, coming from someone who shops for audio gear in a
clothing store frequented by yuppies.

Plus their monstrous sound and hideous looks, note.

Monsterous sound is good.

You're a university cat, right?

Let's all pray for the future of our youth...

Or are you bragging about another brand that's "been around for eons"?

That's kind of funny, since for the first time in my life I'm actually
becoming interested in Tannoy. Of course I'm talking about the Prestige
Series, such as the Westminster Royal, GRF Memory HE, Stirling, and the
one I just heard and enjoyed, the Turnberry HE. Now that I've gotten
into vintage tube amps, Tannoy seems to be an interesting option.

Take a listen to the i5 coupled with a sub.

Amazingly enough, that's what A&F is using.
But it can't possibly be of any quality, now can it?

Plus you can **** all over them and they'll never miss a beat, since
they're "indoor/outdoor" speakers.

Why not just get a "rock" speaker like they sell for gardens and get
it over with?

So I guess that you would love my futur Horn Fostex FE208-ESigma.
I'm sure that with a litle reinforcement in high fz, they are the ideal

I've a friend who is mad about Lowther Horns.
If they're anywhere comparable to the Fostex horns, it's not my kind
of speaker.
Dynamic as hell, yes, but fatigueing to my ears in the long run.

Anyway, it's fun to build your own stuff, isn't it?

Your opinion on this matter has a distinct tinge of the minority.

Well, I have Magnepans. 'nuff said.

Stick with a good thing, and may the Force be with you.

One gets the audio system one deserves. Karma and all that jazz.

*I* can post *through* NZ quite easily, but that doesn't mean that

since they now LIVE THERE. That doesn't make him New Zealand, you
know

Or "a new Zealander" either chuckle. He's too small to be either

For your fat ass, yes.

Oh dear, looks like I need to have this abusive message cancelled.

I love it when these one week wonders wander in here. No sense of
humor; arch, self-righteous pricks, almost to a man. You're no
exception, you know.

Agreed. This pompous boob appears to be suffering from cephalic/anal
inversion. That's my "diagnosis" - lol.
