Rega has a dedicated 78 RPM deck. Google shows Esoteric has a variety of
models.

I don't think I'd consider either of these "high end" from a marketing
view, but they could be good enough for enjoyment.

Depends on what you mean by high end. There are many enthusiasts in Britain
and Europe that buy restored Garrard and Thorens idler-wheel turntables
mounted on massive, rigid plinths that they claim can actually win shootouts
against more modern designs. They view the fact that these machine also
play 78's as icing on the cake. You might explore this avenue, as I'm not
aware of many (or any) current design turntables that include 78 rpm.

Yes, as does Pro-ject among others. They were in the link I posted.

Sorry, Jenn, I guess I wasn't paying attention. And I am surprised at
Thoren's including the 78 speed on their lowest priced table.

This method is what Linn does to play 45s on the 33 rpm pulley with

Lingo. The Valhalla doesn't do 45 RPM.

If the idler wheel Garrards are good the idler wheel BE, Fairchild and
Russco tables must be really, really good, right? You can still get
those monsters cheap.

You forgot Rek-O-Cut and Presto!
