Hello,
If a TEAC 80-8 comes with an external "vari-speed" box, does it mean the capstan is not controlled by the wall outlet's frequency ? Does anyone know ? Thanks, Daniel |

.....to be more precise I'm asking if the original 80-8 motor, a
Hysteresis Synchronous capstan originally, needed to be replaced (for a DC servo capstan) in order for the vari-speed to work ? |

That's what they did. I believe the 80-8 vari-speed motor was the same used in the later 38 model. Rick Ruskin Lion Dog Music - Seattle WA http://liondogmusic.com |

So the Japanese were fairly quick to go to servo capstan designs on better machines just because it's less pulley swapping work, fewer models to stock, etc. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. I installed the variable speed upgrade in 1981 or 1982 and it worked flawlessly throughout that period. Mike |
