Lionel,
Just curious, are you an oenophile? The reason being, I have always had a skeptical attitude towards fine wine, probably because I don't like it and don't drink it ![]() So my question is, do you feel that you perceive subtle differences in wine that are not well quantified? |

The answer is obvisouly yes because your question is put in the only possible way for me. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me, because I am strongly allergic to wine. It causes discomfort in both the sinuses and the stomach. A tale for you: Once, I was driving through the south of France. Entering at Strausbourg, I drove toward Switzerland. I stopped at a small village for the night, where no one spoke English. Regrettably, I have not learned French. This was a wine-growing village; the men worked in the fields in the day and came home to the village at night. Nevertheless, they had an "Inn", which had no available rooms, but a pretty good dining room such as you would not likely find in Oklahoma ![]() Being allergic to wine, I could not drink what everyone else in the dining room was drinking. So I asked for Coca-Cola. There were murmurs. Everyone was looking at the stranger. Then a big, very BIG man gets up, and he "makes a muscle" in his arm, and he says, "Vine. El vine! Popeye!" I assume you are familiar with "Popeye the Sailor Man", who ate spinach for strength. |

A tale for you: Once, I was driving through the south of France. Entering at Strausbourg, (which I don't know how to spell) after a week in the Hitler Youth Camp at Heidelberg, I drove toward Switzerland. Basel is only about 30 minutes away, but I stopped at a small village for the night, where no one spoke English so I could tell myself "I've visited France"! Regrettably, I have not learned French because I only know German and of course the two don't go together. This was a wine-growing village; the men worked in the fields in the day and came home to the village at night. Duh. Nevertheless, for some reason these hard working French people had an "Inn", which had no available rooms, but a pretty good dining room such as you would not likely find in Oklahoma ![]() Being allergic to wine, I could not drink what everyone else in the dining room was drinking. So I asked for Coca-Cola. There were murmurs, then shrieks of laughter. Everyone was looking at the asshole mommys-boy American jew. Then a big, very BIG man gets up, and he "makes a muscle" in his arm, and he says, "Vine. El vine! Popeye!" I guess he looked at my scrawny little physique, which never developed any muscle since I've been sitting in the same room in mommy and daddy's house my whole life, and was trying to help me out of my poor wretched life. Here I am, driving around France alone because I don't have one solitary friend in the world, being mocked by working class jew haters. I assume you are familiar with "Popeye the Sailor Man", who ate spinach for strength. I hated that cartoon. |

I am a wine *lover*, your word is perfect I am one of the hundred million oenophiles... but surely no an oenologist. I thought you were an onanist. And I thought you were ornery. Boon |

I remember when I was young that old people said "It's good for the blood" Like the legendary Fe concentration in spinach. BTW certain wines are very good preventive medecine against cardio-vascular deceases. Have you hear about the "French exception" ? Yes. I take "resveratrol" as a supplement. It is thought to be one of the active ingredients in wine. No fun, but no allergy. |
