The question is which amp is better, a Kenwood KR-V7070 or a Sherwood
AD-2220-CP? Here is the background. I acquired a Sherwood AD-2220-CP integrated stereo amplifier today at a yard sale. It is part of a rack system but seems well built and is described as a fully 'non-switching' DC amp. That sounds fairly fancy. Some other posts indicate that 'non-switching' is related to Class A amps which run fairly hot. It that correct? The manual claims that the output is 65 watts RMS per channel and that the amp consumes 25-480 watts. I have a few other amplifers including Rotel, NAD, and Kenwood and none consume that much power. I have been using a Kenwood KR-V7070 Pro Logic receiver for a while in stereo to run music to my workshop and patio. It seems to be a fairly good amp. So, is there something special enough about the Sherwood that I should consider using it instead of the Kenwood? The non-switching DC thing sounds fairly unusual. Both amps sound ok, but I haven't set up an A-B comparison. |

Here is a followup if anybody cares. After living with the Sherwood for a while, I find it more detailed, powerful, and clear than the Kenwood. It does get hot after a while. So, the Kenwood goes into our church yardsale and I'll keep the Sherwood. |
